The Module concept
Intermediate modules of the same design can be combined with different pallet entry and pallet exit modules. This allows the lanes of rollers to be adapted to different types of handling and lifting equipment.
![]() |
The lanes of rollers are put together as a modular construction system. The length of the module is either 1,248mm (one pallet place) or 2,496mm (two pallet places) , in addition there are a small number of sections for the loading track which have been modified in length to ensure the track length required.
Standardisation
The number of pallets to be stored determines the total length of the roller track and has been standardised for a number of applications:
Standard track lengths for live storage systems:
| Type of Pallet | Direction of pallet |
Number of pallets |

| Euro 1200x800 | lengthways | 2-25 | none | 1250 | 1300 |

Standarised track lengths for slide-in systems:

| Half 600x800 | sideways | 4-16 | none | 625 | 650 |
Naturally other lane lengths can be made up to accommodate other types of handling equipment not listed here. If a slide-in system is wanted for pallets that do not lend themselves to roller tracks, our push-back system can be used. In this case up to six pallets can be slid in and stored - either lengthways or sideways - behind each other.
FiFo und Lifo (First in - First out and Last in - First out)
Live storage racking equipped with lanes of rollers guarantees the first-in, first-out principle: the first pallet is placed at the entry end and rolls to the bottom of the track where it is ready to be removed before the other pallets. Saar Lagertechnik offers standard track lengths able to accommodate up to 25 pallets one behind the other as the first pallet removed; longer lanes can be manufactured as special projects.
Push-back racking works on the last-in, first-out principle: the first pallet is placed at the loading end and pushed one place back against the slope of the track by the next pallet. The last pallet stored is removed before the others. Saar Technik offers standard track lengths up to 8 pallets; longer lanes can be manufactured as special projects. Push-back racking can also be made up of standard modules, whereby only intermediate modules are used because the separation at the start of the track is eliminated.
Racking requirements
Standard pallet racking preferably with 1300mm wide frames allowing the joints of the lanes to be placed on the beams. This construction facilitates the installation and the alignment of the lanes of rollers ensuring that the pallets roll straight.
The beams must be located in a manner that results in a slope of 4% (corresponds to 2.29%).

With this construction the height differential from beam to beam is 50mm so that the welding dimension of the beams is always the same.
Other frame widths are also possible, but the slope should always be in the region of 4%. In these cases our beam supports are used.
