Daimler Chrysler Mini-Load installation in Rastatt
The galvanised Mini-Load installation for automated small parts storage designed and built by Saar Lagertechnik is 35m long, 3.8m wide and around. 7.9m. high. Storage capacity: 4 rows of racking with 90 bays in each row and 24 levels in each bay making a total of 8,640 storage positions.

Over 40,000 rivets and nearly 20, 000 self-taping screws were used for the erection. Installation took place under particularly difficult circumstances as the gangway for the stacker crane was only 800mm wide.
The total length of the uprights when fitted together was 5.70 meters and given the relatively small storage area of »only« 133 m², it becomes clear that to work in such a limited amount of space, top efficiency in the logistics was called for.

If all the load-bearing side-arms were to be lined up, they would reach a length of 7,776m – which helps to explain how the high storage capacity of 8,640 boxes (shelves) was achieved in such a small area.

Calculations for the stacker cranes, tolerances, stress factors and spacings for this automated small parts shelving installation were based on the current version from August 2001 of the European Standard, FEM 9.832.
