After a total solution to logistically link up the order picking area to the assembly area has been worked out, there follows the choice and capacity of the materials handling equipment.

Shortly after an exact installation drawing has been made up, installation can begin. Thanks to the excellently trained erectors, the installation is completed within a short time.

Components are taken from two live storage racks in the order picking area, packed onto trolleys and forwarded by conveyor to the assembly section for further fabrication.

Near the recess in the hall where the conveyors pass from the order picking area into the assembly section the modules are interrupted to check the operation of the fire door. Covers made of polycarbonate ensure that the pneumatics are properly protected against unwelcome interference.

While the upper rail is intended for the delivery of goods, the lower track is needed to return empty trolleys.

The trolleys are returned by means of a 45° junction where the goods are guided through a light barrier in such a way that they can only continue their passage if the section of the main station is free.

The goods are pushed onto the assembly line by pneumatically controlled pushers using light barriers and bar codes to recognise which goods must be sent to which exit.

If a light scanner announces arriving goods, the system checks whether the section to which the goods are being conveyed is occupied or not. If free, the roller is activated and the goods forwarded to the next section. If occupied, the goods coming on behind are held up.

The information flow is an integrated system consisting of control technique and a network of PCs. Purpose-orientated training during the acceptance tests ensures that the installation will function properly.
